Hi there, thanks for stopping by my blog. There are definitely some good yarn shops around if you're willing to drive a bit. Nothing too far though. I used to work at one in Skaneateles. It's called Elegant Needles (It's by far, my favorite, huge selection). Let me know if you need directions to it!
There's also the Knitting Connection on Burnet Ave. It's smaller, but the owner, Judy, will order you just about anything you want!
